"This song is a gift. This song is a bright light flickering in the dark. This song is part of a constellation of bright lights that we miss at our own peril.
Art is never, has never been, neutral. It creates worlds. This song, its courage, is creating a world I could love. Amy and Reckless Burning are creating a world I could love" Kate Partridge

Amy Blanding, a queer, disabled protest folk musician from Prince George, BC played a community concert last April. At the concert’s dress rehearsal she wore a watermelon shirt purchased from Wear the Peace to raise money for humanitarian aid to Gaza. At the show the next day, she sang a song she wrote about the genocide in Palestine called “Sunbirds”. Because of these actions, Amy Blanding lost her job as the Director of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Accessibility at the Northern Health Authority. She has since filed a lawsuit against her former employer (watch press conference here). For more information, read the Tyee article here.
Refusing to be silenced or censored, Amy went into the studio with her band Reckless Burning to record Sunbirds. Released on January 31st 2025, this song is a testament to the unwavering strength and commitment of the people of Palestine, and in solidarity with the struggle across the globe for peace, justice, and freedom from oppression. Every download of Sunbirds will be directly donated to Wear the Peace for food, water, and aid to Gaza including evacuations for medical surgeries outside of Gaza.
